Good morning, all ye faithful!
Well, it’s been a quiet few months since last we spoke, so I thought I’d bring you all back into the swing of things. For one, I’ve been writing a bit, not a whole lot, but a bit, in the past three months, so any rumours about writer’s block or quitting are wildly exaggerated. This is at the core of things, though: Writing and creativity comes in spells, to me at least. Only when looking at larger time periods it’s possible for me to say “yeah, I’ve been writing about a story per week in the last year”. That doesn’t mean I wrote one story each week, there have been weeks, months, of no stories at all, and then weeks when I wrote one per day.
Of course, I’m as frustrated as anyone, when a story arc doesn’t progress or comes to fruition. I’ve started multiple series now, both under this pen name, and a few others, all of which (and several more that are yet to start) I have plenty of ideas for, but lack, sometimes time, sometimes motivation, sometimes just a little spark to get on with. On top of that, there are dozens of stories still to translate, a hundred still to publish on many different retailers, audiobooks to be recorded, book covers to be designed and blog posts, announcements, social media and other things still to be tended to.
In August and September I focussed mainly on getting all of my previous work published on Amazon. After that, my day job and partner needed a lot of attention, while I waited for the Amazon-exclusive 90 day period to run out, after which I can publish my things at other retailers as well. That time has come now, so – for monetary sake – that’s what I’ll focus on in the immediate future.
Of course, I’ll keep you updated, when there’s new stuff available; in fact, I’ve thought about some “daily progress report” in the spirit of the 500 words a day. However, since my job consists of more than just writing (I wish it was just writing…), I’ll have to modify this a little to: 500 words a day (which includes words on blog posts, like this one, as well as social media, book blurbs, translations, etc.) or one hour of other publishing-related work (like book cover design, uploading, converting, maintaining, etc.). Since my writing speed is actually around 1000 words per hour, there’s a little incentive for me to do the 500 words instead of the longer other stuff.
However, as I said: It comes in spells. It may be that I’ll be working much more than that for a few days, and then nothing at all for a week or so. I’ll try to stretch the work done, by scheduling automatic blog updates for the future or making books publishing ready for a later date, so that to you it all becomes a steady stream of nice, shiny new things. I think that’s better than gettting a heap of them dumped on you two weeks and then not hear from me again for 2 months. Right?
Right. After all, we’re in this together, and since we know each other intimately as only porn authors and their fans know each other, I thought we should keep each other’s needs, wants and desires in mind. I know you want more smut to sink your mind and sticky fingers into, and you know, now, that I want to write more, but at the same time need to retain my sanity, take care of my loved ones, work for a living and have a little bit of time left to read, play games and smell the coffee.
So, to sum it up: More regular writing and updated, or at least the attempt to do so. Daily progress reports (mainly on twitter). More smut. All love. Kat.
