Translation, transcription, transport

Well, there we go. I’ve been a busy little bee, translating my own crap like there’s no tomorrow. But as a reward, I could finally publish my second german collection, which I will link to once it’s vetted and live.

Turns out translations are a mixed bag. For one, they don’t come cheap, and with “don’t come cheap” I mean “holy crap, I guess I’m going to translate them myself then”! Yeah, I don’t have 200-300 Euros per book and language to spend; that’s money that I’ll probably never recover.

Also, turns out, a lot of translators aren’t really very proficient in either the source or the destination language. Maybe it’s just me, but if you charge good money for a translation, then it doesn’t help when I need to go over it myself anyway and correct all the mistakes, the sentences you just left out, the parts you misunderstood and the phrases that were unfamiliar to you. Holy crap, I guess I’m going to translate them myself then. Yeah.

So, anyway, I’m still on the hunt and checking out translators, because it seems that my books are pretty popular in certain local marketplaces (mainly spanish and german ones) any maybe, just maybe, I’ll find someone who will do this at a reasonable rate and with reasonable results. One can dream.
